The Path: A Journey Through the Bible
Chapter Twenty: We Have Seen the Lord
This chapter from the Gospel of Luke is filled with stories of different people who experience the death and resurrection of Jesus. It includes the women who visited the tomb, Peter, Thomas, the disciples on the road to Emmaus, and others. When Jesus appears to his friends he is not always immediately recognized. We may wonder why this is so and what this may say to us about God. In your reading consider how God is revealed to us in our daily lives.
As the chapter ends, Jesus ascends into heaven, the Holy Spirit is beginning to be sent anew into the world, and the church is being born. We will ponder these events and questions in more depth. We look forward to your thoughtful input. If you want to explore further read the four stories of the resurrection: Luke 24:1-12, Matthew 28:1-10, Mark 16:1-8 and John 20:1-18. What are the similarities and differences? Which one speaks to you personally?
