Sunday School at SJB

Welcome to our Sunday School program Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS). We meet on Sundays from 10-11 AM. After that the children join their families for Holy Eucharist.

Children start at around aged 3 in a family grouping ages 3-6. They enter a dedicated space called the Atrium. This name was given to the space between the street and the church designated for those awaiting baptism during the days of the early church.

This dedicated space is a prepared environment set up to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the young. The observer will be struck by its beauty, order and simplicity. Low furniture and shelving is an essential element with carefully prepared activities of practical life like pouring, sorting and folding which builds co-ordination of movement, confidence and dignity.

The little ones set up a prayer table with a prayer cloth corresponding to the seasonal Liturgical color, the Bible, a candle and perhaps a cross and some flowers. There, they gather for prayer and singing. Then the catechist usually gives a presentation on scripture using simple handmade materials from the lnfancy narratives, parables about the Kingdom of God and the Liturgy. They then choose their own activities. This includes not only the activities of practical life and handmade materials but also art work and tracing packets.

If you have any questions or would like a tour of our program please contact the Parish Office.
